The town is build around an exquisite lake also know as lake voulismeni - and rests on the picturesque Mirabello bay that is overlooked by the eastern mountains.
Ayios Nikolaos has become a well-established international and cosmopolitan summer resort since the 1960 welcoming thousand of visitors every year.
With the lake being its most charming feature, in which Athena and Artemis took their baths according to the Greek mythology. The town has a strong nautical character and the life is directly connected t the sea.

Folklore Museum of Aghios Nikolaos

The Church of Aghios Nikolaos
North of the town on top of a small peninsula, the church of Saint Nikolaos, is one of the oldest example of early Byzantine architecture.
The Church of Panagia the Brefotrophus:
One-room covered-arch church situated in the center of the town dating from the beginning of the 12th century and it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
