There are boat connections all year round from the port of Agios Nikolaos to Piraeus. During the summer there are also connections with the islands of Cyclades and with the islands of Kassos, Karpathos, Kos. Tours to Santorini are also organized during the summer.
Agios Nikolaos does not have an airport but the city is served by the airports of Iraklion and Sitia.
Agios Nikolaos town is built on the hills above the shore. There is a port and a new well protected Marina by all weather condition, which is build up to European standards.
Tour boats use the small harbour in front of Agios Nikolaos in the summer and the inner harbour (under the bridge) by small fishing boats. The new marina was constructed east of Akrotiri Mandraki having full facilities and the capability to accommodate up to 255 boats all year round.
New Marina Facilities: full services, electricity and water on the quay. Fuel refills are easily arranged.
There are Port Police, Customs and Immigration as Agios Nikolaos is a Port of Entry.
Agios Nikolaos has a General Hospital, private doctors and pharmacies. There are banks, post and telephone offices that offer complete services. Many shops are available for provisions and most repair work can be done here.
Both the port and the marina are within a few minute walk from the city centre and this is a great advantage since all the facilities and sightseeing Ayios Nikolaos offers are also instantly available to the port arriving visitors.
The town is build around an exquisite lake also know as lake voulismeni - and rests on the picturesque Mirabello bay that is overlooked by the eastern mountains.
Ayios Nikolaos has become a well-established international and cosmopolitan summer resort since the 1960 welcoming thousand of visitors every year.
