The Louvre museum in Paris is the most visited in the world along with being one of the oldest, largest, and most famous art galleries.
Accommodated in an 800-years-old building, which was previously a royal palace in which the very rooms that house paintings and sculpture are amazing works of art themselves, with ornate ceilings and rich decoration throughout.
The permanent collections are divided into the Richelieu, Sully and Denon wings, that can all be entered from the base of the Pyramid. There is an information desk, cloakroom, gift shops, restrooms and cafés at the main entrance.
Each visitor can take after entering the museum's brochure-map that highlights the collections and the major works or art found on each floor.
There is so much beauty to enjoy once you enter one of the three wings of the museum it is difficult to absorb it all, so keep in mind that you need more than one day in order to cover the treasures within, representing centuries of priceless works of art.
Do not miss the Egyptian antiquities, collections of European painting from the mid-13th century to the mid-19th century, Objets d’art and the European sculpture galleries.
Most visitors start with the Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo da Vinci on the first floor of the Denon wing. But apart from that the Louvre holds some of the most famous paintings and works of art such as, The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, Madonna of the Rocks, Jacques Louis David's Oath of the Horatii, Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People and Alexandros of Antioch's Venus de Milo.
The museum is located in the centre of the city of Paris, between the Rive Droite of the Seine and the rue de Rivoli in the first arrondissement.
You can either work your way through the floors of one wing or pass through all three before moving to another floor, but keep in mind to plan breaks at one of the many benches found throughout the rooms. Enhance your visit by stopping in one of the excellent gift shops to treat yourself.
