Paphos town itself is actually two distinct areas. Paphos and Kato Paphos the old and new parts of town. Both are part of a thriving, year round resort that combines the old and the new through its rich historical sites and modern hotels, bars and nightclubs.
A small harbor town, situated on the west side of the island, used to be the former historical capital of Cyprus. Paphos has a nice coastline with some charming Cypriot villages in its mountains nearby, where life has not changed for centuries.
Paphos apart from embodying thousands of years of history; has a modern town centre where the main tourist area is situated along with a nice picturesque harbor lined with bars and restaurants as well as a castle overlooking the harbor. Paphos has always attracted visitors from all over Cyprus as well as international travelers.
Paphos is also the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. Nearby you can find the “Petra tou Romiou” (Aphrodite's Rock), which indicates the site of her birth and is located 15km east of Paphos Town.
There are numerous ancient sites scattered around the Paphos region, many of which are now UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.
