Agios Athansios is located 3km north east of Limassol. Built on a small valley of hills, an area with open view to the sea of Limassol. It is named after the local saint of the community Agio Athanasio.
In the beginning till the middle of the century it was a small agricultural community with 400 citizens. After the Turkish invasion the refugees populated the area and the population reach 6000 citizens. Since May 1986 it is declared as a municipality.
Agios Athanasios today is a small developing town, combining the advantages of the old traditional village along with the comforts of a modern city.
